HARRY TAYLOR'S "RIO JORDON" OPENING 2-3-12
"View Near Clarendon Plantation," 8" x10", ambrotype, c. 2011 Harry TaylorHarry Taylor looks at the present as if it is the past. His show "Rio Jordan" is a collection of photographic artifacts from the Cape Fear region. He has "found his voice" through "wet-plate" photographic techniques; tintypes and historic processes that examine the memory of a river. According to Taylor, "...through its long, Zen-like exposures, bulky cameras and onsite processing, wet-plate makes 'a thing,' a reflection of a different time and space. The wet-plate process comes from a time when the understanding of light was thought to provide insight to the mind of God" and "photography was considered an alchemy of awareness." With over 25 years professional experience, Taylor earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts, Photography, University of the Arts, Philadelphia, PA in 1992. His show at 621N4TH opens on Friday, February 3rd and is on display through the month.
